While entering a client’s backyard for a service visit, we noticed a smell of natural gas near the gas meter. We used soapy water to determine the source of the gas leak and discovered that the shut off valve before the meter was leaking. Since the leak is before the meter, it is the responsibility of the gas company to perform repairs on their side. We informed our client and they contacted SoCalGas to inform them of our findings. SoCalGas came out and repaired the leak for no charge to the customer. Our client was happy that we noticed the smell, took action to identify where the gas leak was coming from and informed them how to get it repaired.
